The best way to travel around town is by taxi. We do not recommend traveling with public transport. Most of the locations within Paramaribo are 10-15 minutes apart.
There are a lot of places to visit in Suriname. The historic inner city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has multiple places to visit. There are a lot of day trips to the interior where you can experience the Amazone forest.
For real adventurous type we recommend taking a multiple days trip to the interior.
The local currency is the Surinamese Dollar (SRD). Most places also accept cash US-dollar. Always beware of the exchange rate.
The main spoken language is Dutch. Locals also speak Surinamese, which stems from the slavery period.
Most people understand and speak english.
You should not have to worry about the animals eating you. They do not like international dishes :).
